Terms of use
Who we are
LegacySteps is a service of Alderidge Fusion Limited, registered in Ireland, company number 816930 ("we", "us"). Contact: derek@legacysteps.ie or 087 759 9848.
What LegacySteps does
LegacySteps gives a family one place to prepare, send and track the notifications that need to go to banks, insurers, utilities, pension providers and public bodies after a death. The family decides which organisations to notify, reviews each letter, and sends it. LegacySteps records what was sent and brings replies back into the case.
LegacySteps does not act as an agent, executor, solicitor or financial adviser. We do not give legal, tax or financial advice, we do not administer estates, and, apart from the automatic reminders described in these terms, we do not chase organisations on a family's behalf. Those reminders are an administrative follow-up: they do not guarantee that an organisation will reply, update its records or release money, and a reply from an organisation does not by itself mean an account has been closed or a payment made. The information in the organisation guides is general and may change; check with the organisation if something is unclear.
For families
- You confirm that you are entitled to notify organisations of the death, for example as next of kin, executor or administrator, and that the information you enter is accurate.
- You are responsible for reviewing each letter before you send it and for what it contains.
- The core service is paid for by your funeral director, not by you; whether they include it in their own account is a matter between you and them. The only thing LegacySteps charges a family for is the optional pension search described below, and only if you choose it.
- Keep your sign-in email secure. Anyone with access to it can access your case. You can remove anyone you have invited at any time.
- You can delete your case at any time. Our privacy notice explains what we keep and for how long.
The pension search (optional, paid)
- The pension search is an optional service you can buy from your case. The price is shown before you pay, includes VAT, and is paid once by card through Stripe. It is the same price whatever the search finds.
- For the fee, LegacySteps writes in your name to every pension provider, life company and scheme administrator on its Irish list (and its UK list, if you tell us the deceased worked in the UK), attaches the death certificate you have uploaded, brings the replies into your case, reminds anyone who has not replied (after two weeks, then weekly, up to six times), and produces a schedule of what was found. Where an organisation takes enquiries only by post or through its own form, the letter is prepared for you to send.
- Each organisation decides how it answers. We cannot promise that a pension exists, that every organisation will reply, or how quickly. An organisation that holds a benefit will normally require a certified copy of the death certificate, proof of identity and its own claim form before it releases a value or a payment; we do not make claims or handle money on your behalf.
- The search is not financial, legal or tax advice. What is done with anything found is for you, the beneficiaries and your own advisers.
- Because the letters are sent as soon as you pay, you agree at the point of payment that the service starts immediately. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2022, this means your 14-day right to cancel ends once the letters have been sent. If, for any reason, we are unable to send the letters, we refund the fee in full.
- The organisations on the list and their contact details are checked periodically but may change; if a letter cannot be delivered, we tell you and send it again to the corrected address at no extra cost.
For funeral directors
- You may offer LegacySteps to any family you serve, and you tell them when taking their details that an invitation from you will follow. Nothing is sent to any organisation until the family member has read and agreed to the wording shown on their own screen. The invitation names LegacySteps, says who is responsible for the family's information, and says that using it is optional.
- You give us the deceased person's name and date of death and the family member's name, email and mobile, either by entering them on your dashboard or by sending them to us for us to enter on your behalf, including by copying your LegacySteps address on the email that carries the family's funeral account. You send only details the family gave you for the funeral, and take reasonable care that they are correct. Photographs and messages you send are deleted within seven days of the family being set up.
- After that, you see each family's progress and, where they use it, where their payment requests stand. You do not see their letters, replies or figures.
- If you ask us to invite a family whose funeral account is unpaid, you tell them first, in your own name, that the invitation is coming; the invitation says plainly that its purpose is to help arrange payment, and one invitation and one reminder are sent and no more.
- We charge your firm the per-family fee shown on your dashboard, inclusive of VAT, for each family you set up on LegacySteps (or that we set up on your behalf from your invoice), invoiced monthly. For firms that joined before 1 November 2026, families set up before that date are charged only once the family has opened its case. There is no charge for us setting families up on your behalf beyond that per-family fee. What you charge the family, if anything, is your decision; if you pass the fee on, it appears on the funeral account as a separate line that names LegacySteps and says the service is optional.
- You are responsible for your staff's use of the platform and for keeping their sign-in details secure.
- Either of us can end the arrangement with thirty days' notice. Families already set up keep access to their cases.
Valuers
From the "Valuing the property" step a family can ask a licensed valuer for a probate valuation, either one recommended by the funeral home, one from the panel of PSRA-licensed auctioneers shared with fairdeal.ie, or any valuer of its own choosing. The request goes in the family member's name with the property address and the family's contact details; the valuer's fee is agreed between the family and the valuer, and LegacySteps is not party to the valuation and does not check or stand over it.
Panel firms pay Alderidge Fusion Limited a referral fee when a valuation they carry out for a family introduced through LegacySteps or fairdeal.ie is completed. The fee is paid by the firm, does not depend on the value given, and must not be added to what the family is charged. The family is told this before asking. Valuers recommended by a funeral home are the home's own choice; LegacySteps receives nothing from them.
Availability and liability
We aim to keep LegacySteps available at all times, but we cannot promise it will never be interrupted. We are not responsible for how an organisation responds to a notification, for delays on their side, or for the consequences of information entered incorrectly. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Our total liability to you in connection with the service is limited to the fees paid to us for the case concerned.
Acceptable use
Do not use LegacySteps to notify organisations about a person you are not entitled to act for, to enter information you know to be false, or to attempt to access another family's case. We may suspend access where we reasonably believe this is happening.
Changes and law
We may update these terms. If a change affects you, we will tell you by email before it takes effect. These terms are governed by the law of Ireland.
